Superlatives

Hey girls!

For those of you who have been here for awhile...superlatives are back! And for those of you who haven't...well...we're doing superlatives!

I really want to thank Erika, for suggesting we get this program off the ground again, and Renae, for setting up a kickass form that we are using for the voting.

These are the February superlatives, and hopefully we can do a round every month. You can find the link to Renae's voting form in this post:

I hope everyone gets involved with this, it has been a really fun program in the past!

Downtime

Everyone,

Sorry for the downtime. I noticed the problem last night, tried to get to other diagnostic websites I can use. They were all down. I contacted support and they notified me it was a hardware problem. They dispatched techs to the datacenter to fix the problem. I believe the problem was fixed, and I noticed the site was down again this morning. The http service was not up. I contacted them again and they decided to move us to a new server. We shouldn't have too many problems now, and I apologize for the downtime, the situation was out of my control.

Premium Membership Update

I want to thank everyone who is a Premium Member.  Without you girls we probably wouldn't have been able to get the site back up and running, so we really do appreciate it.

If you are a Premium Member, you already know that you get access to the "Premium Member" forum, as well as"Pillow Talk" forum by becoming a member.  You also get more PM storage.

One change that we have made to the Premium Membership recently, is that now only Premium Members have the ability to be "invisible".  Invisible mode allows you to be on the forum without other members knowing you are online.

The cost of a Premium Membership it is currently $10 for one year and $20 for two years.  To sign up to be a Premium Member, go to User CP > Miscellaneous > Paid Subscriptions.

We do appreciate all the Premium Memberships, as well as sponsorships, we couldn't do it without you girls!

Don't forget to sign up for Secret Sister!!

Sign Up for Secret Sister!!

Hey girls! I've really taken everyone's input into consideration...at least I think I have. A lot of you have a lot of great ideas, for themes, for how it should be run, etc. With that being said, we're going to start small. If it goes well, and more people join, we'll be able to expand it more to make it more specific, but for now, we are going to split into two groups:

Please use your MIG screenname as your first name, so that we can identify who you are on MIG too.

If you are single, or don't fall into either category, you can join whichever you feel is the most appropriate for you.

We aren't going to have a specific theme, but when you follow that link, I have added all the suggestions we were given. You can make your own wishlist, and can also specifically note things that you wouldn't really appreciate.

You must sign up by 01/15/2009.

You must send your package AT THE LATEST by 02/07/2008.

Remember, there will no post count requirement for this swap, but you must have been a member for at least 2 months. The way this website is set up, anyone can join, but if you have been a member for less than 2 months you WILL be removed from the swap manually. I really REALLY hope that this swap goes well. If you aren't able to follow through, please don't sign up.

Also keep in mind that if you do not follow through this time around, not only will you be unable to participate in future swaps, but you will lose up to 1000 reputation points. If you are concerned about your package getting lost in the mail, get a delivery confirmation, so we can at least give you credit for sending it. I hate to be a stickler like this, but this is kind of the "last shot", if it doesn't go well, I don't know that we'll be able to do it again.

Anyway, go forth and swap! And let me know if you have any problems with the elfster website: militaryissuedgirlfriends@gmail.com.

Social Groups

This post is from our Moderator Jenny (jenny05)

Ladies, we have a few new features on MIG since the software upgrade... I wanted to share one with you, it is located in your User CP and is called "Social Groups"

Basically, you can use this to create your own groups like we have "Army, Navy" but they can be more specific, like "University of Georgia Football Fans." Or anything you can think of :) The groups you join will show up on your user profile.

The page will have a message board and a place to post photos. I think you can create them and they can be public or private groups. I'm not really sure how that will work though, so we may all be able to see the title of the group.

Moderators do have the power to delete any groups that we feel are inappropriate, so let's keep everything PG :) Thanks girls, I hope this is a fun part of the site. Just thought I'd let you know it was there!

The new software has a lot of new features that we are just learning about ourselves.  We hope to learn everything that is out there and will featuring new posts about the new software until we run out of stuff to post about!

Secret Sister February

So, we are still planning on doing Secret Sister for February. A lot of girls said they have sent stuff that hasn't been received. I think, in the future, we will not do a Christmas swap.

Anyway, we have adjusted the rules for this swap. First, there is no post count requirement, but you must have been a member on the site for at least 2 months, and have 100 rep points

Also, if you do not follow through with your swap, you will lose 1000 reputation points, or all your points, if you have less than that, in addition to not being allowed to participate in future swaps. If you are worried about your package getting lost, you can get a delivery confirmation so that we have proof that you sent it.

PLEASE only sign up for this swap if you will able to follow through with it.

That being said, I am kind of excited for this one myself, and I hope it goes really well :)

Some of the ideas we've gotten for themes are: underwear, jewelry, baked goods/chocolates. And we will try and set people up together based on their SO's deployment/training status. The idea will be that you will pick one of these general themes, but can always send some other stuff to make up for it. For example..underwear isn't very expensive, you can send anything else you want that you think would be appropriate.

We will start sign ups later this week (probably tomorrow or Thursday), but if anyone else has a suggestion for another category, there is still time!

MIG Downtime

Sorry for the slight downtime yesterday. The MySQL server was hanging and needed to be restarted. We've also upgraded to have more memory, which was part of the problem. Our processes were getting killed due to a low amount of memory available.

The MIG Blog

Welcome to the MIG blog!

This blog exists for two purposes.

First, to announce any updates going on at MIG.  Whether they be new programs, changes to the site, etc.

Second, to keep everyone updated if we do have any more issues with the site.  We have a lot of members, and a lot of information on our website.  Every once in awhile the site does have issues.  Luckily Renae is technically minded enough to either fix them, or get someone who can fix them to help us out.

If you aren't aware, this is also a blog in the "Dear Diary" forum of the website, but if you are a blogger, as I am, its just easier to subscribe or follow this feed than it is to remember to click on the blog.  Plus, again, if the site goes down, you'll have access to this still.

I also want to make it clear that this and the blog on MIG are exactly the same.  Don't feel like you have to read both :)

With that being said....welcome to the MIG blog, I hope this is useful for you girls!
